特雷弗的声音哽咽，大黄不是家里的第一只狗，是特雷弗出生后才买回来的狗，它陪伴了特雷弗一整个童年，大黄跟他比特雷茜还要亲。
听到大黄要被卖掉，特雷弗第一个舍不得，可是他也知道妈妈的话很对，爸爸的医疗费不够用，就算现在不卖，以后也是要卖出去凑医药费的。
特雷茜修女安慰着弟弟特雷弗，特雷弗的眼泪还没有收回去，卧室里传出来了声音。
“trevor? Is that you out there? why aren't you sleeping? we have a class tomorrow!（特雷弗？是你在外面吗？你怎么还不睡觉？明天还要上课呢！）”是半夜起床的特雷夫人听到门外的响动。
特雷弗慌了，他不知道要不要和妈妈说姐姐回来了，因为姐姐在对他比手势，让他不要说出去，可是为什么呢？妈妈看到姐姐会很高兴啊，她明明很想念姐姐。
特雷夫人见没有人回答她，警惕起来：“trevor? Is that trevor?（特雷弗？是特雷弗吗？）”
她拿起防身的猎枪就要走出来，特雷弗听到声音立马开口：“Yes, mom! It's me! Rhubarb's got a brick in his foot! I'm ing out!（是的妈妈！是我，大黄被砖头夹住了脚，我出来看看！）”
“All right, go to bed early, keep your voice down, don't disturb your dad.（那就行，早点睡觉，小点声，别吵到你爸爸。）”里面中年女人的声音明显放松下来，将猎枪放回原处，转身回到床上。
等了很久都没有动静，特雷弗才小声询问特雷茜修女：“Sister, aren't you staying one night? Not seeing mom and dad?（姐姐，你不住一晚吗？不跟爸爸妈妈见面吗？）”
特雷茜修女摸着他的脸摇摇头：“No, my sister has something to do. I'm leaving soon. I just want to e back and see dad. how does dad look?（不了，姐姐还有事，一会儿就走，我只是想回来看看爸爸，爸爸看起来怎么样？）”
说到这个特雷弗看起来有些沮丧：“I have never seen my father so weak, almost every day lying in bed, it is difficult to go to the ground, my mother looks very tired every day, picking vegetables will fall asleep.（我从没见过爸爸这么虚弱过，几乎每天都躺在床上，下地都很困难，妈妈每天看起来也很累，摘菜都会睡着。）”
特雷茜修女听到这话真的想不顾一切就留下来，可是她不能，她如果在教堂突然失踪会引起很大骚乱的，说不定还会给家人带来麻烦。
“trevor, you're a big boy. You need to help your mom with your dad, share the housework, and I'll try to get back for a while.（特雷弗，你是个大孩子了，你要经常帮助妈妈照顾爸爸，分担一下家务，我会努力争取回来一段时间的。）”特雷茜修女决定回去再跟神父磨一磨，希望能回来几天。
